You can create new folders using either the Save As or Open dialog box, all without leaving Excel.

Create a new folder

NOTE You can change the default location for saving and opening workbooks by selecting Excel Options from the File tab, choosing the Save category from the left-hand pane and entering the location in the Default file location box in the Save workbooks section. The following reserved characters cannot be used for naming folders: forward slash ( / ), backslash ( \ ), greater than ( > ), less than ( < ), asterisk ( * ), quotation mark ( “ ), question mark ( ? ), pipe symbol ( | ), and colon ( : ). Recommended best practice is to only use letters, digits, spaces, underscore (_), and hyphen (-).

P ROCEDURES

1. Select the File tab . 2. On the left menu, click Save As . 3. In the Save As screen, click Browse .

4. Select the drive where you want to create the new folder. 5. Open the folder where you want to create the new folder. 6. Click the New Folder button . 7. Type the desired folder name. 8. Press [Enter] . 9. To return to the previous folder, click the Back button .
