SOIL PREPARATION

CHAPTER 7

case a mix-delve or shift-delve plough can be used. Light tex- tured Westleigh soils will not need soil preparation, but subsurface drainage may be necessary specif- ically in heavier textured Westle- igh soils. • Mispah and Glenrosa soils are shallow and consist of topsoil on respectively rock and weathered

rock. Mispah soil can be ripped and successfully used for grape growing. Glenrosas can also be successfully ripped, but on some Glenrosa soils other implements will give better results. Leaching of salts from Mispahs and Glenrosas to lower lying soils must be pre- vented by installation of cut-off drains.
