CLEAVER STARTER KIT - DYE This simple kit will enable you to teach the principles behind gel electrophoresis without the need to view the samples on a UV or blue light transilluminator. The kit contains six dye samples labelled A to F with enough reagents to run two sets of six gels. Vial A contains a dye marker consisting of 4 dyes. The other vials B to F contain a single dye. When the samples are loaded into a gel and run on an electrophoresis unit the students will be able to watch the different coloured dyes separate by the size of the molecules, so simulating how DNA separates by different molecular weight. Stable for up to 6 months at room temperature & 12 months if kept in fridge at 4°C Contents: dye samples, agarose, electrophoresis buffer & mini fixed volume 1 IN SEARCH OF MY FATHER Your class will enjoy discovering the true identity of two boys who were separated from their parents a decade ago. Their mothers are identified by mitochondrial DNA and their fathers from chromosomal DNA. Will it be a happy ending? Kit includes: instructions, Ready-to-Load™ dye samples, Agarose™ powder, practice gel loading solution, buffer, microtipped transfer pipettes. All you need: electrophoresis tank, power supply, balance and microwave or hot plate. For 10 Lab Groups. Complete in 45 minutes Storage: Room Temperature Stable. Storage of Ready-to-Load QuickStrip™ samples in the refrigerator is recommended. Cat No. Description Price Per BIO-650-200 In Search of My Father 68.90 ea. 2 SICKLE CELL GENE DETECTION (DNA-BASED) Sickle Cell Anaemia is a common genetic disease that causes long rods in red blood cells, giving them a ‘sickled’ appearance. These cells get stuck in small capillaries of the blood stream leading to oxygen deprivation that causes pain and organ damage. Sickle Cell Anemia is caused by a single point mutation in the hemoglobin gene that results in a faulty protein. In this experiment, your students will investigate the restriction enzyme that discriminates between HbA (normal) and HbS (disease) genes and perform a simulated test on a patient. Kit includes: instructions, Ready-to-Load™ DNA samples, UltraSpec-Agarose™ powder, practice gel loading solution, electrophoresis buffer, InstaStain® Blue and FlashBlue™ stain,, calibrated pipette, microtipped transfer pipettes. All you need: electrophoresis tank, power supply, variable micropipette and tips, balance and microwave or hot plate. For 8 Gels. Complete in 45 minutes Storage: Room Temperature Stable. Storage of Ready-to-Load QuickStrip™ samples in the refrigerator is recommended. Cat No. Description Price Per BIO-860-310 Sickle Cell Gene Detection Kit 119.00 ea. 3 PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE OF AGAROSE GEL ELECTROPHORESIS KIT Demonstrate to your class how electrophoresis separates molecules on the basis of size and charge. A safe, colourful, fast and simple way to teach a technique that will engage your students. Kit includes: instructions, Ready-to-Load™ dye samples, Agarose™ powder, practice gel loading solution, electrophoresis buffer, microtipped transfer pipettes. All you need: electrophoresis tank, power supply, balance and microwave or hot plate. For 8 Gels Complete in 45 minutes Storage: Room Temperature Stable. Storage of Ready-to-Load QuickStrip™ samples in the refrigerator is recommended. Cat No. Description Price Per BIO-700-100 P&P of Agarose Gel Electrophoresis 80.52 ea. pipette. Cat No. Description Price Per BIO-500-300 Dye Starter Kit 59.03 ea.

Breast Cancer Genetics Kit

4 BREAST CANCER GENETICS KIT Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, with around 5-10% of all breast cancers being inherited. Mutations in the breast cancer 1 (BRCA1) gene greatly increase the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. This gene is found on chromosome 17 and is normally responsible for DNA repair and is known as a tumour suppressor gene. Mutations in BRCA1 are dominant and so the presence of one copy of a mutated form can cause an increased risk of cancer. This experiment will test DNA of members of a family where the grandmother (generation 2) and her daughter (generation 3) both developed breast cancer - both had a mutation in their BRCA1 gene. Each kit includes enough DNA, agarose gel, electrophoresis buffer and DNA stain for up to 8 groups of students (8 gels). Also required is a horizontal electrophoresis system with power supply and pipettes. • Whole experiment takes less than 1 hour • Great for introducing genetic diseases and genetic screening to students • Works perfectly with Cleaver Scientific electrophoresis equipment Cat No. Description Price Per BIO-560-100 Breast Cancer Genetics Kit 64.67 kit
