News from the Kent Island Chapter By John Wallach, President

2017 started with our 7th Annual Fishermen’s Flea Market which was held on January 28th and 29th, 2017, Our 2018 Flea Market flyer and information is located at the end of this summary. A hearty “Thank You” to all of the fishermen and MSSA folks who attended our 7th Annual Fishermen’s Flea Market. With over 32 vendors, the best egg sandwich and Bloody Mary on the circuit, this year event was a resounding success. What a great selection of new and used gear and accessories.

KIFC, Always a Supporter of Local Charitable needs The KIFC supports many local charitable causes. Just a few we supported this year include being sponsors for the 7th Annual America's VetDogs Annapolis/Kent Island Run and Dog Walk held on Sunday 23 April 2017. Lisa Yambrick was much honored and grateful to join us last meeting to accept your sponsorship check for our America's VetDogs held on 23 April at the Kent Island High School.

Spring Trophy Fishing April 24. For trophy season the club went fishing aboard Backdraft charter boat captained by Charlie Sission. Club Fishing and Picnic June 24 On June 24th the club sponsored a club fishing get together and picnic. We honor this occasion in the name of one of our past members Mr. George Dickson. The fishing was followed by a picnic. Although the weather did not cooperate this year with the storm moving through the area. High winds made for a tough day fishing. Lots of grass fowling lines, lines getting wrapped in props made the fishing hard. August 12, 2017, MSSA 12th Annual Jon Bupp Memorial Youth Fishing Derby Jon Bupp was smiling and very proud of his fishing club on the 19 of August. Over 80 anglers took part and caught 132 fish in 2 hours. Smiles were seen on just about everyone faces. A big thanks to Lou Wade and Dave Stith for organizing the event and luncheon. The club presented the Kent Island Estates Community Association with a thank you plaque for their founding and continued support of this event.

Our local area was hit hard by tornados this past summer and the fishing club provided monetary help to a family in need from Bay City. The club also heard a short presentation by the current American Legion Commander Mr. Curt Kersey. He is in the running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma man of the year. The club voted to support this cause and Curt with a pledge of $500. Crab Feast Time, If ya missed it YOU missed a great time We had our crab feast on October 6th, in the crab palace at the legion. A great time was had by all. Thanks to the members who cooked cleaned and managed this event. As a first timer I was impressed with the organization and fellowship. The crabs were tops, full, meaty, and sweet. The shrimp were great as well. Plus free beer & sodas, well what can I say? Thanks to all who helped out.
