Smith and fellow senior and two– time all-conference performer Val Strocco will provide Cossaboon with experience at the midfield position. Starters Katie Allen and Andrea Keesling both return off of strong seasons in 2001. Allen scored two game-winning goals including an unassisted score to beat USC 1-0. Keesling , a sophomore from Thousand Oaks , started every game dur– ing an AII-WCC honorable men– tion season as a rookie.

Forward Ashley Jacobsen re– turns for her senior season after scoring the game- winning goal against UC Irvine in 2001. Junior Brenna Mullen is another upperclassman who made major contributions last season. Mullen is one of eight local play– ers that have come to USO after playing with the San Diego Surf Club program. Juniors Colleen Fogarty, Hayley Robertson and sophomore Brooke Roby are among them. Fogarty and Robertson each scored goals last season , while as a true freshman , Roby saw extended time as a midfielder. With the loss of seven seniors, the newcomers will be expected to con– tribute . The recruiting class includes three prep league MVP's - Lee Ann Klopschinski (Upland , CA) , Megan Oliveira (Lemoore, CA) and Stephanie Baines (Everett, WA). Another freshman recruit, Michelle Rowe , enters the Torero program after leading her Calgary Blizzard club team to a national championship as a prep player in Canada . Midfielders Marie Claude Henry, a transfer from Nebraska, and sophomore Shanon Bauer (Escondido, CA) round out the Torero's six new players.
