HOT TOPICS

Deadline to report physical education evaluations approaching The Ohio Department of Education reminds all districts and schools to report Ohio physical education evaluation data to local EMIS coordinators before the school year ends. Ohio law requires public and community schools to assess every student once per grade band (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12). The evaluations were designed to be incorporated within physical education lessons throughout the academic year. Additional information is available on the Department’s website . Third Grade Assessments in Paper Format for 2019-2020 Senate Bill 216, adopted by the 132nd General Assembly, amended ORC Section 3301.0711 to provide for the possibility of a paper format for the grade three assessments in English language arts and/or mathematics. However, the Board of Education must adopt an authorizing resolution and submit it to the Ohio Department of Education by May 1, 2019. A template of a resolution is available here. NOTE (NOT PART OF THE RESOLUTION): The first two paragraphs above specify that both the third grade English language arts and mathematics assessments will be administered in a paper format. The paragraphs will need to be adjusted, obviously, if only one of the assessments will be administered in the paper format. Please note that, with exception of the accommodations for special needs students, all third grade students must take the assessments in the same format.
