For 150 Years , family-run company C.H. Hanson has remained committed to its founding values of faith, hard work, and quality products. The company’s founder, Christian Henry Hanson, the ‘C.H.’ of C.H. Hanson, came to the U.S. from Denmark. Shortly after arriving, Hanson became a soldier in the Civil War. While serving as part of the 39th New York Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Garibaldi Guard, he was injured in the Battle of Gettysburg. He eventually decided to settle in the growing city of Chicago after being taken to Fort Dearborn to recover from his injuries. On February 21, 1866, Christian Henry Hanson founded C.H. Hanson, which he based on the stencil business he knew in Denmark. He began producing hand-cut stencils at the company’s first location at Clark and South Water Street in Chicago with the help of his brother John. When Christian’s brother returned to Denmark, Christian partnered with Edward Band, who would later become a vital part of the company. While working to build his company, C.H. Hanson also committed himself to helping the area Danish community by volunteering at Chicago’s office of the Danish Consulate. As both an official and a business owner, he led with kindness, generosity, and courage. The King of Denmark even recognized Christian Hanson for his work to help Danish immigrants. C.H. Hanson was in business for 5 years when the Great Chicago Fire rattled the city destroying 17,000 structures including all the company’s work. Christian Hanson and Edward Band met on the Clark Street Bridge with just the cloths on their backs and a handful of stencil dies and it was there, on that bridge, they vowed to rebuild everything. From its roots as a small business, C.H. Hanson has grown into an industry leader in service and product knowledge for hand tools including: steel stamps, stencils, barricade tapes, and marking tools to vises, positioning tables, clamps, abrasive finishing machines, and sawing, drilling, tapping, turning and milling machines. In addition to all the category and product expansions, C.H. Hanson also expanded from its original location of 81 years in Chicago to various manufacturing facilities settling, in 2005, on a 20 acre facility in Naperville, Illinois with even more space for expansion. Today, C.H. Hanson continues its commitment to hard work, operational excellence, invention, and acquisition in the industrial, construction, hardware, and retail markets. The company is proud of its most recent acquisition of Palmgren Steel Products, a

company that for over 95 years has proven their reliability, efficiency, and durability in their tools throughout the world. Palmgren’s foundation of success is based on innovative design to increase productivity and real quality which had propelled the company to be a market leader for work holding and machine tools. Through everything, C.H. Hanson has remained a family business, with 4th and 5th generation Hansons currently leading the company’s purpose to serve customers, care for its employees, and help the community. Craig and Philip Hanson credit their success to the Lord’s provision and plan to continue to grow the company on the same principles of strong character and hard work the business was founded on.
