PERSONAL AWARD:

November 5th , 1982 marked the day that University of San Diego Head Basketball Coach Jim Brovelli joined such greats as Bill Russell and K.C. Jones as he was inducted into the University of San Francisco Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at the Father Flynn Hall of Fame Banquet in San Francisco. Brovelli played guard for the Dons from 1960-64 where he was instrumental in leading USF to two West Coast Conference Titles in 1963 and 1964 TOREROS DRAFTED IN NBA: In Brovelli 's eight years of coaching at the University of San Diego, he has coached players that were drafted into the NBA such as Ken Smith (Golden State Warriors}, Stan Washington (Washington Bullets}, Buzz Harnett (Golden State Warriors), Bob Bartholomew (San Antonio Spurs) and Ron Cole who opted to play with the Harlem Globe Trotters. CONSISTENT IMPROVEMENT: In their three years as a member of the West Coast Athletic Conference, the Toreros have improved their overall and WCAC record in each of the years. The 1981-82 season saw the Toreros lead all WCAC teams in team defense giving up just 61.6 points per game in 26 games and 64.8 points per game in 14 conference games. Besides improving their team records , growth in the program has been evident in the athletes that USO has recruited to the school, in– cluding six WCAC All-Academic team members last year. FUTURE SCHEDULE: This year the Toreros will play in the prestigious Big Blue Classic with opponents Utah State , Texas Christian and Idaho State. Future tournaments include the Wolfpack Classic in 1983-84, the SMU Tourney and Casaba Classic in 1984-85, and the Hardin-Simmons Tourney in 1985.
