Experience an enchanting variety of landscapes and cultural history on this voyage from Dublin to Reykjavík. Legends keep history alive in Scotland, a rugged land of windswept moors, ancient castles, and a legacy of a bloody history, and in the far-flung Faroe Islands, centuries of isolation have preserved evidence of a Scandinavian heritage. Your final stop is Iceland, where you’ll walk along volcanic landscapes and cruise by Zodiac, keeping a lookout for marine mammals including minke and humpback whales.

DAYS 1-7 DUBLIN, IRELAND / SCOTTISH ISLES Embark in Dublin and cruise to Iona, whose abbey, founded by St. Columba in 563, is said to have survived many Viking attacks. On the Isle of Lunga, view a magnificent array of birds and enjoy the many rare and endangered plants. Oban, “little bay” in Gaelic, is a magnet for travelers, with its panoramic views of the mountains, lochs, and islands that have captivated artists, authors, composers, and poets for centuries. After exploring the thriving fishing port of Mallaig, head to the mysterious and mountainous Isle of Skye, an island of beautiful, soft mists and sunsets that linger brilliantly until late at night. St. Kilda’s stunning cliffs and sea stacks are home to the most important seabird breeding colony in

northwest Europe. Exploring the sandstone cliff faces of the Isle of Noss reveals ledges loaded with gannets, puffins, guillemots, shags, kittiwakes, razorbills, fulmars, and great skuas. DAYS 8-10 FAROE ISLANDS Much of the Faroes’ heritage reflects a medieval past, beginning with the arrival of farmers from western Norway who settled here in the 9th century. On Streymoy, the largest of the Faroes, fields are grazed by ponies and sheep, and hamlets with half-timbered houses are topped by green grass roofs. Birds by the thousands populate the craggy seaside cliffs both here and on Vestmanna, while waterfalls cascade from hundreds of feet in the air to reveal a series of sea caves.

The island is home to a single farming family and has some meticulously preserved historical landmarks including a 200-year-old rowboat, still used to ferry sheep to the mainland. Disembark in Reykjavík and depart on Day 13.
