SPONSOR THE STUDENT PIN EXCHANGE

A key draw of ISEF is the educational symposium sessions. The Society teams up with approximately 40 presenters each year to offer students and their teachers, mentors, fair directors, and parents a series of meaningful sessions geared toward science education, research, and science fairs. Topics presented may include: intellectual property protection, how statistics can improve a project, and how to fundraise. Core volunteers and staff provide sessions on key aspects of ISEF management, such as new rules for the coming year, and judging chairs may offer advice and information about the upcoming judging day. Sessions run daily, Monday through Thursday, and range in audience size from 25 to 400 people. There are typically three to four sessions running concurrently throughout the day. This icebreaker has become a signature event of the week. The Pin Exchange takes place on the first night of the Fair. Students come to this reception with bags of lapel pins that represent their home countries or states. They seek out as many students as they can from other places, introduce themselves, and trade pins. They wear these pins on their lanyards for the week. Many of the students come dressed in outfits representative of their home countries. Recently, some have created unique outfits to represent their U.S. states. This event, which includes dinner, is typically hosted in a hotel ballroom. No adults are allowed, except the sponsor of this event and the Society’s President who makes the rounds to hand out a signature Society pin.
