There are also volunteering roles available at the Adoption Centre. If you have some time to give and would like to help, please email newbury.volunteering@cats.org.uk Hiya I’m Special K. As you can see I’m a petite girl with bundles of character. I came into Newbury Adoption Centre as my owner was unable to look after me anymore. When I first arrived at the Adoption Centre I had a flea allergy, it made a lot of my fur fall out. I am told I look rather adorable now it has grown back. I’m quite an independent little cat. I can be sweet at times and I will let you know if I want attention. My new owner needs to understand that I like attention on my own terms and a place to retreat to when I want time alone. If you think, you could offer me, a forever home, please pop in and meet me.

Newbury Cats Protection – helping cats for over 50 years

C ats Protection is the UK’s largest feline welfare charity. It’s dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats, as well as educating people about cats and cat welfare. Some cats come into their care because they can no longer be looked after by their owners. Others are strays, while sometimes an owner may need to move and a new landlord won’t allow them to keep pets. Whatever the reason, Cats Protection is there to help. The Adoption Centre has 30 cat pens and rehomes approximately 500 cats every year. The Newbury Adoption Centre is entirely self- funded and every year over £125,000 is required through fund-raising to help with the costs of running the centre, including expensive veterinary

with rich, golden yolks. The birds closely resemble their original Patagonian ancestors, and really are the bird for all seasons, thriving in most situations. There will also be Clarence Court’s Leghorn Whites that lay beautifully bright white eggs that mirror their white plumage. Look out for the Bantam’s feathery feet and the charming Braddock White ducks who love to make a mess and splash about. Finally, you can meet the shy and retiring quail, a beautiful bird that lays the most delicious and delicate flavoured eggs – there may even be a few for you to try. For the foodies and health conscious among you, Clarence Court’s resident nutritionist will be on call throughout the show to offer advice. Eva Humphries, AKA the Wholefood Warrior, will be demonstrating her skills in the Cookery Theatre at 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, while food stylist and cookery book writer Pip Spence will be judging the Best Victoria Sponge competition. Working with Clarence Court for some time, she knows what difference good-quality eggs makes to a sponge. So if you want to avoid a soggy bottom – pop along for a chat. To find out more, head to the Village Green over the weekend to say hello or visit their website www.clarencececourt.co.uk

THE show’s first-time headline sponsor is Clarence Court Eggs, who are embracing the spirit of the funfair on the Village Green. Featuring prominently throughout the show, Clarence Court offer the widest collection of eggs sold in Britain. Producing fabulous eggs by fabulous birds since 1928, they share the same passions for excellence in agriculture and will be using the show as an opportunity to celebrate and show their appreciation for the industry. On the Village Green, they invite you to come and try your luck on the Ostrich Egg Shy or challenge your family and friends at their traditional egg and spoon races running throughout the weekend. Come and get a selfie on the biggest egg box you’ve ever seen, fresh from Burghley Horse Trials, with winning rosettes and golden crowns for all the children. It promises to be an action-packed weekend for everyone. After all this excitement, there’s lots of space to chill out with the family and meet some of Clarence Court’s beautiful hens too. Experts will be on hand throughout the show to advise and answer your questions, so if you ever wondered what the difference is between a Burford Brown and an Old Cotswold Legbar, the team will be able to tell you more and

The warm and friendly Mabel Pearman’s Burford Brown hens are placid and sociable – they love people, really enjoy running around and just having fun.

Their eggs have won universal admiration thanks to the conker-like glossiness of the shells, the plump and upstand- ing golden yolk and brightness of the white.

The Old Cotswold Legbars are the jokers of the flock, brimming with personality. They lay the most beautiful eggs with pastel blue shells

show you some of their favourite breeds. All the birds have their own distinct personality and characteristics.
