USD Baseball 1996

1996 PREVIEW

One More Arm To Throw In Cunningham will have to move to a four-man rota- tion this season because of th e change in the co nfer ence schedule. Two sop h omo r es , Brian Mazone and Bart Miadich should see some time in the rota- tion with Miadich possibly working in as the team's closer. Junior Brian Springer, who recorded three saves last year, might be moved into the rotation.

Bart Miadich and Brian Mazone are two sophomore arms in the rotation.

Blending the Old and the New USD will try to blend their upperclassmen with the young talent new to the squad thi s season. Junior Matt Kuseski led the team in batting average in '95 and is the key returning base stealer. John McNamara is a second generation Torero who is the definition of a team player. Freshmen Chris Humpert and Eli Cecil have plenty of ability, but no game experience. Transfers Travis Farrell and Chris Liosi played well in the fall. Tough Schedule The Toreros will be tested from the start with ten games in the first two weeks. The WCC's move to eight teams and four-game series' will test USD's depth and strength of its rotation. The two new teams entering the confer- ence this season will make the WCC much stronger.
