What kind of person do I need to be? Do you enjoy debating and presenting convincing arguments? Are you interested in how laws and decisions affect everyday life? Do you want to understand differing viewpoints and learn to evaluate how policies impact a society? Do you have an enquiring mind and an interest in current affairs? Could you see yourself working in media, politics or education? If yes, then politics may a subject to choose. How do I get there? At A level this subject combines well with English, history, economics, philosophy, classics or languages. For fur ther interest you could consider a degree in the subject or combine it with other topics like sociology, international relations or media. You could extend your studies doing a postgraduate course which would be beneficial if you were considering a future in education, political policy or research. Your studies will equip you with transferable skills that can lead to destinations such as public relations, retail, marketing, broadcasting and banking.

What skills will I learn? Politics looks at the fundamentals of how a society is orchestrated, governed and relates to other nations states. The subject explores diverse issues such as environmental policy, international relations and human rights. You will learn how to present and argue a political opinion, evaluate and analyse complex data, write coherently in essays and defend yourself under scrutiny. This is an intellectually stimulating course and will give you confidence in sharing your opinions.
