Entering his 11th year, head coach Brian Fogarty is looking forward to the challenges of NCAA Division I-AA football and the newly formed Pioneer Football League. Under Fogarty's direction, the Toreros program became one of the top Division III programs in the west. Last season's 7-2-1 squadmarked the program's fourth consecutive sevenwin year (28-9-1 during that span) and its sixth consecutive winning campaign. Coach Fogarty enters the 1993 season with a 10-year mark of 54-40-3.
Coach Fogarty's teams have also fared well in the class- room. Since 1986 fourToreros have earnedGTEAcademic All- America status, and this past season saw five players get named to the District VIII Academic All-America team. The National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame has recognized a scholar- athlete from USD each year since 1983. Also, since 1983, the USO football program has graduated over 95 percent of its players. As evidence of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues and football people in general, Brian has served on the Board of Directors to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (San Diego Chapter) the past seven years; served on the All-America Selection Committee for District IX (1987-89) ; and the Western Regional Advisory Committee for Division III Rankings (1990-92). Coach Fogarty, who serves as the team' s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, enters 1993 in search of his seventh straight winning season. The immediate future of USD football looks promising as approximately 40 lettermen return in 1993, including I2 starters. Before coming to USD, Brian coached at St. Francis High School in La Canada, California where he was head coach for four years and an assistant coach for nine years prior. As head coach his record was 28-18-2 and his teams made the playoffs all four years. Brian and his wife Vicki have four children: Bridgit, Joe, Colleen and Megan.
