W SP in Africa, one of the largest Multi- Disciplinary Engineering Consulting Firms on the continent, proudly acknowledge the contributions of the firm’s engineers to two winning projects in the Industrial Development and Overall Transformation Categories of the 2019 SAPOA Property The winning projects included: Industrial Development: Cummins Southern Africa Cummins is a global company that designs, manufactures, services and distributes diesel and alternative fuel engines and power generation products as well as related components and technology. Cummins sells in approximately 190 countries and territories through a network of more than 6 000 company-owned and independent distributors and approximately 6 000 dealers. The company also has a long history of customer support in Africa, with representation in 51 African countries, and Cummins new Southern Africa regional head office facility is a testament to the companies continued investment into its operations and commitment to customer support on the continent. Located along the N1 highway in Waterfall City, in Midrand, the efficient building design for the Cummins regional head office has been furnished with several innovative energy saving technologies – including a custom designed cool HVAC system. Development Awards for Innovative Excellence, as announced in June.

Engineers from WSP provided Mechanical (HVAC) and Fire Engineering Design and Consulting Services on this project. Overall Transformation: Cape Town International Convention Centres (CTICC) 2 The CTICC 2 hosted several [event first] showcase events before officially opening in January 2018. Located opposite and due east of the original convention centre (CTICC), construction of the R900-million expansion commenced in 2014 and has been a collaborative project by the CTICC and its shareholders – the City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government and SunWest International. CTICC 2 adds an additional 31 148 m 2 to the entire complex, including 10 000 m 2 of conference and exhibition space, a further 3 000 m 2 of formal and informal meeting space – which has been translated to six exhibition halls, four meeting suites, five meeting pod rooms, an executive boardroom, three open-air terraces including a rooftop venue, a coffee shop, and a multi-level parking garage. Additionally, new facility centre boasts an environmentally sustainable design, high-tech venue control systems, high- calibre IT infrastructure, free public Wi-Fi, three production kitchens to cater for every type of event, and a service tunnel under Heerengracht avenue connecting CTICC 2 with CTICC 1. Further developments have also guaranteed that the CTICC 2 has been O ld Cape Quarter, a popular retail destination in the vibrant neighbourhood of De Waterkant in Cape Town, is undergoing an extensive refurbishment. Developed by Tower Property Fund and designed by dhk Architects, the complex is being revitalised into a mixed-use hub including new retail and office spaces as well as 55 luxury apartments and penthouses. The redevelopment includes the partial demolition of the existing building to strengthen its structure and enable the insertion of a modern four-storey residential component. fully integrated with the original centre to ensure seamless event operations – and thereby strengthening the overall convention centre’s positioning as a world-class venue and the city’s reputation as a global business events destination. Engineers from WSP provided mechanical (HVAC), electrical, wet services, Mathieu du Plooy, Managing Director of WSP in Africa, said: “Though some of the key staff associated with these projects have since left WSP to pursue other personal and professional opportunities, we are exceptionally proud of all the teams and their contributions to these projects. Our congratulations goes out to our clients on the prestigious accolades achieved.  will feature punctured openings, steel balustrades and timber shutters with the penthouse level clad in Rheinzink. Each apartment will display clean, contemporary lines with floor-to-ceiling windows and timber flooring. The parking, office and retail spaces will be refurbished to a high standard with the size of the office floor plate increased and the retail and restaurant areas reinvigorated. The central courtyard, which sits at the heart of the development, will be activated through the creation of a new green oasis with flanking and cascading planted terraces. An attractive timber brise-soleil will hold the edge of the courtyard on the northern side while providing a visual barrier between public and private realms.
