Part 1

It’s January, so by now you’re probably bored with the games you got for Christmas. Let's take a quick look at the year ahead to see what’s coming down the pipeline.

Spider-Man There’s a lot of hype surrounding this PlayStation 4 exclusive and we’re not surprised – how good was the E3 gameplay trailer!? Development is in the capable hands of Insomniac Games, who brought us the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises. The game is touted for release in the first half of the year.

God of War Kratos returns early in 2018 accompanied by his boy in a gritty sequel to 2010’s God of War III. It’s a departure from the traditional series in several ways – while still played in third-person, the camera is now over the shoulder á la Horizon: Zero Dawn , and the game eschews the Greek Mythology of previous entries for Norse. Like father like son. Far Cry 5 The queues to play this at last year’s PAX in Melbourne were long, and having played it at E3, we’re not surprised. The action in this open-world FPS comes to Montana, where an armed religious cult control the fictional town of Hope County. Strong antagonists are synonymous with the Far Cry franchise and ‘Father’ Joseph Seed is no exception. It’s even got dogfighting in it. We’re in! Detroit: Become Human Remember Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls ? That was Quantic Dream, a French studio renowned for thinking outside of the creative box. The game is set in a near-future Detroit where humans and androids live side-by-side, and will feature a branching narrative leading to a plethora of possible outcomes. Quantic Dream’s games are usually quite divisive – however, we happen to like them.

Sea of Thieves Another game that has sailed through a couple of E3s now, Sea of Thieves is an online pirate sim. You’ll get up to all sorts of swashbuckling shenanigans as a pirate on the high seas, whether it’s tackling skeletons on islands or attacking passing ships to plunder their loot. Coming March 2018. Crackdown 3 When you watch a trailer for a game that features Terry Crews, there isn’t much we can tell you that isn’t self- explanatory. Having suffered a number of delays, open- world adventure Crackdown 3 is set to hit shelves this Autumn.
