One of the prettiest is Ezcaray , an urban complex with balconies full of flowers, palaces and churches like that of Santa María la Mayor. A little to the south, in Calahorra , you can explore the Jewish legacy in its streets, visit the incredible cathedral and the Museo de la Verdura, an inter- active centre teaching all about market gardening in the La Rioja region. If you're looking for places to take you back to the Middle Ages, in the Castile León region there are some beautiful towns. In the province of Segovia , you should visit the delightful town of Ayllón , especially on the last weekend in July when the town dresses up to commemorate its medieval past. Nearby you'll find Maderuelo , located on a hill above the banks of the Linares reservoir. This small town has pre- served several Romanesque churches and chapels.
