JSM - Edition Two

M y H oliday Last holidays I went to England and Europe for six weeks. I visited lots of places but my favorites were England, Rome and Barcelona. England We travelled from the bottom to the top of England. In England all four seasons are wet and cold. They have beaches with rocks and it was too cold to swim, even though it was summer.

Nearly every place in England has history. England has lots of villages with worker’s cottages, a big historic house or a castle. I saw four castles, Portchester, Arundel, Edinburgh and Castleton. They all have parts thought to be one thousand years old or more. My favorite castle was Edinburgh because I got to go in the dungeons. Arundel castle has lots of chairs, tables and frames made out of gold. The chairs are made of gold, wood and fabric. Lots of pictures were make of fabric to keep the castles warm. We definitely don’t need to do that in Australia because it is normally warm. England has lots of forests but the English call them woods. We went to Kingly Vale the oldest Yew tree forest in the world. If you’re wondering what a Yew Tree is this is one with me climbing it. Some of these trees thought to be two thousand years old. Is this is one of them?

In Portsmouth we went to the historic dockyards. We saw famous old ships including the HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. HMS stands for Her Majesty’s Service because they were royal navy ships. The Victory was Lord Nelson’s battleship. He won an important battle against the French and Spanish called the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. He was famous because he invented a new strategy for attacking which made two lines of ships. He won the battle but was shot on the top deck of the Victory. Today he is remembered with Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square in London. continued over page...
