LEADING THE WAY FOR FOOTBALL CLUBS IN EUROPE | No. 2 - 2013/14

FOREWORD /////////////////////////////////////////// At the occasion of the 12th ECA General Assembly last month in Barcelona, we presented a Study on the Transfer System in Europe, which ECA commissioned to contribute to the on-going discussion on the transfer system, which, up until now, was very much based on individual and personal opinions. The objective of the study was to present real figures from official sources, which help to explain and understand how the current transfer system operates. The study provided some interesting facts and figures, notably that 73% of the total number of transfers made by European clubs over the analysed two-year period were out-of- contract transfers, which is strong proof that freedom of movement is guaranteed (72% if considering transfers within UEFA territory). In the meantime, the study outcomes have been presented to various stakeholders, which have welcomed our initiative to provide reliable data for future debate. In this newsletter, we have summarised the key outcomes of the study for you to review. Don’t hesitate to contact the ECA Administration at email@example.com to order a hard copy version of the report. I take the opportunity as well to point out some important decisions taken by UEFA and FIFA over the last couple of days: a new national team competition, the Nations League, as well as the new intermediaries regulations are underway. I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter and find it useful.
