In addition, Tessa Flournoy was crowned as First Alternate Dairy Princess. Tessa is the daughter

of Wade and Tina Flournoy of Orland. She is a student at Shasta College and is majoring in

animal science and plans to transfer to California State University, Chico. Tessa works full time

and is involved in Shasta College Ag Leadership club and was the committee chairs of many

events, including organizing a contest for the Shasta College FFA field day. Tessa was recently

accepted to receive the American FFA Degree and will receive the award in October at the

National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tessa will assist the new District 4 Dairy Princess in her duties, which include speaking on

behalf of the California dairy industry at schools, service clubs, with the media, and at numerous

public events throughout the year.

In addition, the Dairy Princess and her Alternate will attend a training session focused on

presentation development, advocating for the California dairy industry, leadership and etiquette.

Along with the excitement of naming a new dairy ambassador, the District 4 Dairy Princess

committee awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jared Poldervaart of Orland, CA. Jared is a senior at

Hamilton City High School and will attend CSU, Chico in the fall.

California is the nation’s leading milk producer. It also produces more butter, ice cream and

nonfat dry milk than any other state. The state is the second-largest producer of cheese and

yogurt. Dairy products made with Real California Milk can be identified by the Real California

Milk seal, which certifies that the products are made with milk produced on California dairy

farms by California dairy farm families.
