emotions cause blockages in the flow of subtle energy, and that these blockages are the root cause of all sicknesses and depres- sion. Disease, according to Chinese doctors, manifests first as an energy blockage before it materializes as a physical ailment. Blocked energy stagnates, and stagnation is devitalization. Just as a stagnant puddle of water is less healthy to drink than a flowing stream, the stagnant energy in our bodies is less healthy than flowing energy. Devitalization Is the Kiss of Death for Weight Loss Devitalization causes stress, activates the FAT Programs, 1 and makes us perpetually hungry and tired. Because we are exhausted all of the time, we crave sugar to boost our energy. As a result, we end up eating junk food just to get through the day. We also get upset more easily and we become more prone to low-energy negative thinking. This creates more stress, more negative emo- tions, more energy blockages, and more devitalization—a vicious cycle indeed. You can unblock energy pathways by reducing stress, nega- tive thinking, and negative emotions—all things we talked about in the previous section. You can also replenish this energy by spending more time in nature. In the Space Age world, we very rarely interact with the ele- ments in our natural environment. There is vitality everywhere in nature; sunlight, fresh air, fresh water, earth, trees, mountains, and grass all have their own energy that we absorb when we are in their presence. Up until very recently, we spent most of our time outdoors, interacting with and absorbing this energy. Now we spend most of our time indoors, cut off from the nour- ishing vitality of nature and thus remain devitalized—starving for vitality. You can also replenish this particular energy by eating more live and vibrant foods. At the moment, nutritionists and experts focus on the things that they are certain exist, such as calories, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and the like. But these are all just chemicals—
