Vitality: The Zero-Calorie Essential Nutrient

So what’s the solution to vitality malnutrition? Foods that contain the most vitality are live, preferably organic, in season, and locally grown. Foods with live chlorophyll have the most vitality. (Chlorophyll is the substance in plants that con- verts sunlight into nutrients.) All types of salads and sprouts are great—the greener the better! The food with the most vitality and live chlorophyll is fresh-squeezed wheatgrass juice (see page 130 for more on wheatgrass juice). You don’t only get vitality from eating live foods; spend a few quiet minutes a day in nature. I know this isn’t always convenient if you live in a city. But perhaps you can make it a point to go to a nearby park on a break or at least spend some time out in the sun. When I lived in New York City, I would go entire winters without seeing the sun (I went to work before it was light and came home after dark). It was also very rare for me to be around any trees or grass. My body was starving for nature, and this was a major contributing factor to my problem with obesity. The following is an easy technique that you can use to gain and assimilate more vitality directly from sunlight. This tech- nique is based on five-thousand-year-old Chinese Taoist Chi Kung techniques. It may sound strange, and—by all means—if it feels funny to you, skip it. But I can tell you that it really works (don’t knock it till you try it). It’s quick, easy to perform, and extremely effective. Technique for Vitality—Eating the Sun • Stand up, preferably outside, with bare feet on the grass if that’s possible or comfortable for you. Face the sun with your eyes closed and your palms out, and let the sun bathe your face, hands, and body. • Focus your attention around your forehead, and visual- ize breathing the sunlight into your forehead. Feel that You can also absorb vitality directly from the sun.
