Magnesium, for example, is one element that requires insulin to enter your cells. 3 If the cells aren’t listening to insulin, you can take all the magnesium supplements you want to but you’ll still remain deficient. Being deficient in magnesium causes chronic exhaustion and chronic stress, 4 and this creates a vicious cycle. The chronic starvation for magnesium keeps the FAT Programs on, which then makes the cells stop listening to insulin even more, and that only makes it harder for magnesium and other vital nutrients to enter the cells. Eating a modern diet of processed foods wreaks havoc on the body’s ability to digest and assimi- late nutrients. If only a small percentage of the food we eat ends up nourishing our bodies, it requires much more food to get the job done. Couple this with the fact that the foods we eat have very little nourishment to begin with, and it’s easy to see why so many of us are stuck in a state of chronic nutri- tional deprivation. Periodontal Disease There’s mounting evidence to link the pathogens in the mouth from periodontal disease with the FAT Programs. 5 It may be no coincidence that a very large percentage of obese individuals also suffer from this ailment. These pathogens ultimately spread to our digestive track, killing our beneficial bacteria and compro- mising our absorption of nutrients. It’s a good idea to get your teeth cleaned once a month for the first six months of your trans- formation. Also try to take good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing frequently. There are now also toothpastes available that have probiotics in them. I highly recommend using this sort of toothpaste, as this will help fight off pathogens and improve the positive bacteria culture of the mouth (please refer to my website gabrielmethod.com for recommended toothpastes). Once you start naturally choosing foods that are healthier, gum disease should not trouble you as much, or at all. For the
