The Positive Stresses

U p until now, we have been focusing our attention on how to eliminate the negative stresses (both physical and emo- tional) that can activate the FAT Programs. These are the stresses that trick your body into thinking it needs to be fat in order to protect you. But just as your body can be tricked into thinking it needs to be fat, it can just as easily be tricked into thinking, “I need to be thin!” As far as weight loss is concerned, stress can be a good thing or a bad thing. That’s why stress will make some people fatter and other people thinner. With mental and emotional stresses, it often depends on the way your brain interprets those stresses. However, there are some stresses where the interpretation can really only go one way: “we need to be thinner in order to sur- vive.” Or to put it more fundamentally: Get thin or get eaten. Get Thin or Get Eaten When you introduce stresses that cause your body to believe it has to be thin in order to survive, you’ve won the weight-loss battle. These are the good stresses. And there are ways you can make these stresses a welcome part of your daily life. Let’s first look at the principle stress that will make your body want to be thin: exercise.
