Month Two Add a SMART Mode Session

If you want to take things to the next level, or as an alternative to listening to the CD, have a ten-minute SMART Mode session, preferably first thing in the morning (chapter 8). After a few months or so, you may want to stop listening to the CD at night, but I recommend the morning visualization as a habit that you adopt for life. If your experiences are anything like mine, you may find you won’t want to give up this morning session for anything. Once you have made the morning session a habit, you’ll have a powerful mechanism in place for changing and improving any aspect of your life that you desire. If you stop listening to the CD, you should still spend a moment or two practicing visualization at night and first thing in the morning. I usually practice visualization every night for a few seconds as I am going to sleep, and it’s become a habit. But there was a period of time, after I lost the weight, that I thought I didn’t have to do this anymore. I thought that I had “arrived” and that I no longer needed the practice. What happened after a few weeks was that I noticed I was eating more and thinking more about food. As a result, I started to become very worried that some- thing had changed, that my body no longer wanted to be as thin. I then resumed practicing visualization every night as before, and everything went back to normal. I started eating less and thinking less about food. I now see the daily practice of visualization like “setting the dials on the automatic pilot.” Storms and crosswinds can make a plane veer off course no matter how good the autopilot is. The stresses and strains of the daily grind can have the same effect on your body, causing it to veer off course too. When you invest thirty seconds using visualization every night, you’re resetting the dials on your automatic pilot so you won’t go off course.
