Dysfunctional Beliefs: Beliefs have a much greater control over our physical bodies than we give them credit for. There are hundreds of documented examples of terminally ill individuals who believed that they would be healed and then were. There are also examples of people who believed they would get sick and then became ill. There are even examples of people who believed that they were going to die, and for no other reason, they died. In the same way, negative and dysfunctional beliefs surround- ing obesity and weight loss can activate the FAT Programs. If you believe you were meant to be fat, born to be fat, or deserve to be fat, or if you believe that losing weight is difficult or impossible, then your body gets fat or stays fat simply because that’s your belief. It is understandable why you may have arrived at some of these incorrect conclusions, but that’s only because you’ve been approaching weight loss in the wrong way—from the outside in, by forcing yourself to eat less and denying yourself the foods that you’re craving. Weight loss is easy and effortless when you get your body to want to be thin. In order to do this, however, one of the things you have to do is eliminate the dysfunctional beliefs that are getting in your way. Understanding what triggers the FAT Programs and how to turn them off is really the key to everything. If you get this right, everything else is smooth sailing. Envisioning Your End Result When you have read and understood the tools in this book, my promise to you is that you can expect to: • Stop dieting: You will never be asked to control your eat- ing forcibly, neither the amount of food you are eating nor the type of foods you are craving. You can eat whatever you want whenever you want. • Nourish your body: Rather than dieting, I’ll ask you to add certain foods and to adopt positive eating habits. This
