Another past life story I’ve heard is about a man who previ- ously lived in a culture where being fat was synonymous with being rich and powerful. As a result, his soul in this life expressed a desire to be fat because he made the association that being fat is desirable. I also once heard about a lady who found that, in her past lives, she relied on her body to help her get what she wanted too many times. In this life, she chose to be fat so that she would not rely on her body as a tool of per- suasion. When she was able to make this realization, her weight issues went away. I find that people with past life issues surrounding their weight are often very curious about their former lives. It’s as if something just resonates inside them when they hear about the possibility that their weight issues could be related to events in their distant pasts. Trauma Any trauma, particularly serious trauma, may make you feel that the world is unsafe and therefore trigger emotional obe- sity. I had a friend who was in a serious motorcycle accident, and after he got out of hospital, all he wanted to do for the next six months was stay in his room and eat. Divorce, job loss, and even witnessing someone else’s trauma may cause emotional obesity. Overcoming Emotional Obesity Due to Trauma and Abuse If you can trace the onset of your weight gain to a specific inci- dent in your life, such as being abused as a child; being in a car accident; undergoing a divorce; or experiencing the separation of your parents, a loved one dying or leaving you, a past life, or any other trauma, I strongly recommend that you enlist the serv- ices of a qualified therapist. There are many excellent healing modalities around. Find one that appeals to you, and spend
