Eliminating the Nonphysical Causes of Obesity Using SMART Mode ™

T he stress signals that can trick your body into activating FAT Programs all originate from negative emotions, such as fear, sadness, longing, anger, and resentment. If you have no fear, you have no stress. Negative emotions communicate to your body that there is some form of threat out there—that in some way you are not safe. But you can eliminate negative emotions by going to the source of these feelings. After all, we have to create our emo- tions; they don’t just come out of nowhere. Beliefs generate emotions. For example, one simple dysfunctional belief, such as “everyone hates me,” can generate negative emotions all day long. On the other hand, a more positive belief, such as “I’m safe,” can make us happy and content for an entire lifetime. Change your beliefs, and you instantly and permanently trans- form your emotional state. Let’s look at an example as it applies to weight loss. Imagine that you have arbitrarily decided at some conscious or subcon- scious level that being fat is in some way making you safer. As you know, holding this belief is a problem that is going to undermine your efforts no matter how hard you struggle and force yourself to lose weight. Until you let it go, this belief will always be there. If you were simply able to change your thinking so that instead you believed
