Part II: Nonphysical Stresses that Activate the FAT Programs

that the thinner you are, the safer you are, your weight prob- lems would be solved. One simple thought, one simple change, and weight loss becomes effortless. Now, you don’t have to be totally fearless in order to lose weight; it’s enough to simply focus on those thoughts that are causing the problems. This is something that is really very easy to do, and it can happen instantly. But you have to understand one thing: you can’t easily make changes to your thinking in your normal waking state, or what’s known as the “beta” state of consciousness. Changing “wrong” thinking is not going to happen by making a conscious effort or by an act of will. You have to enter a state of awareness in which you can actually make the appropriate changes and have them stay with you for life. I call this particular state of awareness “Super Mental Aware- ness Re-education Training Mode,” or SMART Mode. When you are in SMART Mode, you become a super-learning machine. You can make quick and permanent changes to your thinking. SMART Mode allows your brain to reach very relaxing and pleasant states of awareness, which experts call “alpha” and “theta” states. These are perfectly normal, natural states you pass through every night as you are going to sleep. The only differ- ence is that SMART Mode happens when you enter this state consciously. That’s why I made the evening visualization CD. 1 The first thing the CD does is relax you and put you in SMART Mode. Once you’re in SMART Mode, the CD makes certain extremely beneficial suggestions targeted toward eliminating the nonphysi- cal causes of obesity. What happens then is, while you sleep, your subconscious integrates these suggestions into your thinking until they become an automatic part of your everyday life.
