Forming the Church Plant Team and Understanding the Roles Excerpted from The Nehemiah Team Training Materials

I. The Team (four types of members)

A. Core members (the primary job of the core member is church planting): four to six people

1. Meet for planning, outreach, and worship at least two weekday evenings and some weekend time

2. Stay in active service with the team for a minimum of two years

3. Called by God and willing to engage in cross-cultural evangelism

4. The team leader must be a core team member

B. Support team members

1. Stay in active service for a minimum of 3 months

2. Meet weekly with the team for planning and prayer

3. Give at least one weekday evening and/or some weekend time to serve church plant

C. Volunteers: Individuals or groups

1. Serve as needed on a project-by-project basis

2. Are invited to planning meetings and projects that pertain to them, but do not function as week-to-week team members

D. Indigenous leaders

1. The goal of all core team members, support team members and volunteers is replacement by indigenous leadership.

2. The team function moves from doing to equipping.
