Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox

Paul Bunyan was a lumberjack. Tall tales about him are over 100 years old!

Paul Bunyan was so big.

When he was a baby, he did not fit in his house.

Paul was so strong.

He carried trees on his shoulder.

Paul was so heavy.

The ground shook when he ran.

Paul was so hungry.

He ate 100 pancakes for breakfast.

Paul had a blue ox named Babe. Babe was the biggest ox in the world.

Babe was so big.

She did not fit in a barn.

Babe was so thirsty.

She drank all the water in a river.

Lumberjacks told tall tales about Paul Bunyan at night. They laughed at the funny exaggerations.

Get your cut out page ready. The boxes on each page are for the main idea words found on each page. Directions: Color the trees. Cut out the lumberjack and glue the picture in the square in the forest.

Directions: Color the bricks on the fireplace. Color the flames. Cut out pictures of wood. Glue the wood inside the fireplace.

Directions: Circle the picture of winter. Discuss with others why you know the picture you circled is winter. Glue the lumberjack next to the winter picture. Color both the summer and winter pictures.

Directions: Cut each end of the trees. Now you have logs. Glue the logs into the box below.

Directions: Cut out the logs and glue them onto the sled. We say “ox” if there is one. We say “oxen” if there is more than one. Practice putting things “onto” something in your classroom or home.
