At halftime of USD's football game witl1 Valparaiso last season (Oct. 14, 2006), USO officials honored Walter J. Zable by naming me field at Torero Stadium tl1e "Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium". The University of San Diego is pleased to honor Mr. Walter J. Zable, an inspiring individual who has internationallymade a name for himself in born me corporate and aililetic forums. Mr. Zable has been actively involved wiili the University of San Diego for over 30 years. He served on tl1e Board of Trustees from 1978-1996 and is now Trustee Emeritus. He has been a generous donor to USO and its' Aililetic Department since 1974. .Mr. Zable is the head of one of tl1e nation's largest electronics firms - Cubic Corporation. He is still the active chairman, president and CEO of me company. Mr. Zable started Cubic Corporation in San Diego in 1951 as a small storefront business; Cubic Corp. now has 140 locations and employs nearly 6,000 people worldwide. Active in community and government affairs, lV!r. Zable has been a member of tl1e University of California - Cancer Center Foundation, and holds directorships on me National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, and me advisory board of tl1e San Diego Hall of Champions. Mr. Zable was me first recipient of me Distinguished American Award from me National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's San Diego Chapter. The Foundation's highest recognition for aililetic and humanitarian excellence - me Gold Medal Award-was presented to him in 1980.He was an honorable mention All-America football player at William and Mary, and went on to play professional football wiili me ew York Giants. In 1981, Mr. Zable was enshrined in me College Football Hall of Fame, in Souili Bend, Indiana.
