Jan Chap– man, Class ef 1961, was inducted in 1995. Matt Maslowski, Class ef 1971, was inducted in 200 1, Jeb Dougherty, Class ef 1997, was inducted in 2006. Jan Chapman was a three-sport letter winner at the University of San Diego, but it was football where he made a name for himself. His three-year totals as quarterback included 2,573 yards and 23 touchdowns on 188-for-367 passing. His senior year was his best when he completed 85-for-167 passes foe 1,087 yards and 9 TD's, ranking him 23'd in the nation. Also as a punter, he ranked 3,d in the nation his sophomore year (43.8 yards per punt) and 6'hin his senior campaign (43.2). He is the current USD season record holder for yards punted (2,287) and average (43.8). Chapman is still remembered for leading USD to a 21 -20 upset over the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot which touted four future NFL stars. Chapman's leadership abilities were demonstrated on the field as well as on campus. As co-captain for football his senior year, he received the Gil Kuhn Trophy as the Outstanding Gridder, given to the player that best demonstrated sportsmanship, performance in the highest degree, and leadership. He was also president of the Associated Student Body his senior year. Since graduating in 1961, Jan has stayed in the San Diego area, giving back to the community by teaching and coaching at the high school and com– munity college levels. Matt Maslowski, after playing football at Mission Bay High School and Mesa Community College in San Diego, decided to continue his career at USD. At 6'3" and 205 lbs., Matt donunated as a receiver for the Toreros. During his first season, he was the leading club football receiver in the nation with 42 catches for 799 yards in only seven games. His collegiate career was cut short in 1970 due to injury, but he still managed some remarkable numbers during his career. Playing in only 11 games for USD, Matt had 80 catches for 1,552 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged a remarkable 19.4 yards per catch for the Toreros. Because of his size and speed, Matt was offered a free agent contract by the Los Angeles Rams and played for George Allen and Tommy Prothro. In addition to the Rams, Matt played for the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and finished his career with the Florida Blazers of the World Football League. At the request of a group of students in 1969, the University of San Diego agreed to bring football back eight years after dropping the sport. Under Coach Jim Gray, they started a club program. Matt and his teammates from the club football team laid the foundation for a solid football program still going strong. Jeb Dougherty was two-sport athlete and a classroom standout at USD. He earned Acadenuc All-America honors in football and baseball prior to getting a bachelor's degree in Business in 1997. A defensive back in football, he ranks among the top three in career tackles, pass break-ups, kickoff-return average and forced fumbles. He was a third team Associated Press All-America selection, USD's defensive MVP, a first team All-Pioneer Football League selec– tion and USD's scholar-athlete choice for the ational Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (San Diego chapter) his senior year. He was a three-time PFL All-Acadenuc selection and a four-time PFL Player of the Week. In baseball he was an outfielder. He was USD's co-MVP in 1996, a first team All-WCC selection and an Acadenuc All-American for District VIII. He led the team in hits, runs, and batting average his junior and senior years. He was a four-time WCC All-Acadenuc selection. He signed with the Angels after his senior year and advanced to the Double-A level before retiring in 2001. In addition to his professional career in the sales field, Jeb currently runs local youth baseball spring training camps in the San Diego area.
