Sarabeth Pollock begins her third year as the Coordinator of Athletic AcadenJiC Support for USO. She has worked as a tutor in the Athletic Department since the fall of 2001. Slie serves as the aca– demic advisor for all sports except Football and Rowing. Her responsibilities include the supervi– sion of the Study Hall and the administration of the tutoring and mentoring programs. Currently, the Academic Support Program employs over 25 tutors who represent a variety of majors across campus, as well as over 12 mentors who are graduate students pursuing their masters degrees in USD's Counseling Program. Sarabeth graduated from USO in 2002 in the Honors Program, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. She speaks Spanish and French fluently. A 5th generation San Di– egan, she resides in Point Loma with her family. In her spare time, Sarabeth enjoys working on her novel that she hopes to have published by the end of the year. Keddy Saunders begins his first year as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Services for USO. He coordinates the CHAMPS/Life Skills program which promotes the personal development of stu– dent-athletes. Also, he is the academic advisor to football, women's rowing and men's rowing. Keddy is from nearby Horizon. He earned a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Real Estate from USD in 2003. A transfer from SDSU, he was a three-year member of the USO football team between 2000-2003. Saunders has worked for J.P.Morgan and Chase and Smith & Barney and decided to return to USO because he wanted to work with student-athletes. In the fall, Keddy will enroll in the masters program for Business and Corporate Law.

"The greatest challenge to a Division I athlete is to balance the demands ofspart while taking full advantage of the educational experi– ence offered. The purpose ofour program is to assist student-athletes in meeting this challenge by offering tutoring, advising, mentoring and a quiet environment to study. The academic support program is designed to assist students in adjusting to life at USO and developing sound aca– demic andcareer plans. Bypromoting a philosophy ofindividual responsibility, which encourages each student-athlete to value their educational experience, the academic support program assists each athlete to realize their full potential."

Athletic Training The department of sports medicine operates under the supervision of the University of San Diego's designated team physician, Paul C. Murphy MD, the associate director of athletics for sports medicine, Carolyn Greer, as– sociate athletic trainers,and assistant athletic trainers.The sports medicine faci lity is located in the Jenny Craig Pavilion and is for the exclusive use of the University of San Diego student-athletes. This 2,400 square foot facil– ity has defined taping, rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy areas. In addition, there are a private treatment/ exam room, offices and storage. The entire ath letic training staff takes great pride in the services rendered to over 400 student athletes throug h this facility.The USO athletic training room is clearly the top sports medicine venue in the West Coast Conference.
