C OMMUNITY H EALTH F AIR

On October 19, 2016 the annual community health fair was held at the Hermansville Senior Center. Area Seniors as well as folks of all ages visited the event. While attending there was no shortage of things to do, learn and even win! Snacks were also served. Flu shots were available administered by the local Health Department, glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol and oxygen levels could all be checked by professionals. There was also opportunity to find out a general idea of whether or not a person is at risk for low bone density. Attendees could have their ears checked by a hearing aid service to see if their ears are healthy. Most agencies represented also provided a door prize for the winning! Agencies providing services for this event were; OSF, MDS-CAA HRA Senior Services, Senior Center, and Personal Care Services each had a table with helpful information, Public Health of Delta-Menominee Counties, DCH, MSU Extension, Manor Care, Freemans and Maryhill, Great Northern Home Care serving Menominee, Dickinson and Delta Counties, Norway Eye Care, Pine Crest, Miracle Ear of Escanaba, Dickinson Home The Norway Current/Menominee County News Dori Carlson Stephanie Bruno of MSU Extension Nutrition program serves up a sample of some very nutritious and delicious pumpkin soup

This event was very well attended and everyone had a great time while there! Health and even 1st Lieutenant Cunningham of the Gladstone State Police Post each also provided information relating to health and wellness for this event! In addition, each table had lots of "freebies" such as pencils, keychains, chap stick, stickers, magnets and lets not forget the food! Most tables featured a choice of candies and a variety of information regarding the services their respective agency provides. Veggies and dip, fresh fruit, cake and coffee were provided by the Hermansville Senior Center. There was also a 50-50 raffle. In an interview with Hermansville Senior Center Director, Pam Haluska, she shared that this event has been held for well over 25 years! She also stated it is always well attended and this year was no exception! She was very pleased by how well everything went again this year and would like to thank everyone for participating! Folks, if you missed this event this year, be sure to watch closely next October for the date and if at all possible come see the agencies and businesses who have tables, visit with friends and maybe even win a prize!
