On Friday, 14 September, 2012, a group from Waldshut-Tiengen, Section Germany, arrived in the UK for a weekend of stepping back in time with horse drawn travel and murder mystery. Sussex branch have been twinned with Waldshut- Tiengen since 1998. After a brief visit to Devil’s Dyke - a famous beauty spot near Brighton, the group travelled to Godalming, where members were joined by Surrey branch to enjoy a trip on the Arun and Wey canal on the boat ‘Iona’ - which was drawn by a Shire horse. There were 31 in the party and they all enjoyed a cream tea on board.

The award was in recognition of Laura’s contribution to the IPA Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in 2010. Unfortunately, Laura was not present at that year's NCM and the presentation was delayed owing to Laura's move to France following retirement from the service.

It was then on to Petworth House, a National Trust property, where a murder mystery was enacted by professional actors scattered around the house. Visitors became sleuths as they interviewed suspects surrounded by the many magnificent paintings and fine furnishings that this house has on show. This turned out to be a lucky day for Adrian Boniface, Sussex branch Secretary, as he won the first prize in a draw in The Yeoman Warders’ Bar. Adrian won a beautiful engraved decanter of the Tower. Adrian’s good luck continued on Thursday evening at his branch’s meeting. His numbers came up twice on the 200 Club prize draw! Sussex branch is already looking forward to visiting Waldshut-Tiengen in September.
