Member Seeks Raffle Donations for Worthy Cause Adrian Mills, a member from Birmingham West Midlands branch, is trying to raise funds for COPS. Adrian's efforts are fully supported by 5 Region. The death of two colleagues, in September, 2012, from Greater Manchester police has hit the policing family hard and highlights the need for charities like COPS as they make sure the family, friends and colleagues they have left behind are supported. Adrian said this is why he has decided to raise funds for COPS. Adrian appealed, "The last big event I did was a cycle ride from Solihull to Paris to fund raise for Acorns children's Hospice and I raised over £3000. I then did some fundraising for a local little girl by the name of Keira Fletcher who was really ill, she needed money for surgery abroad. I am now appealing to IPA members for items to raffle and auction in aid of COPS. The auction will take place at the COPS anniversary ball on 16 March 2013." Please email Adrian if you can help: ademills@hotmail.com Branches Join Forces During October, 2012, members from Avon and Somerset South joined members from Devon branch on an IPA trip to Majorca to lap up some much needed sun. Allan Mounce said, “On the first evening we mixed and matched orders at the restaurant which allowed everyone to get to know each other. The party mixed so well that each evening we were invariably the last to be tactfully pushed out by the staff to enable them to prepare for breakfast.” Members had a ‘free rein’ each day as they explored in small groups. On the Friday some decided to take the train to the Port de Soller. The train is famous for its wooden built coaches and this year celebrated 100 years of service. The Port’s harbour has a beautiful bowl shaped setting with many restaurants around the edge. Alan explained that the beautiful blue skies gradually became overcast and what followed was probably the heaviest rain that he had ever seen in his life. The bad weather caused such a disruption that whilst trying to return to the hotel Graham Bulford could not find his wife Sue and Marie Blaney lost her husband, Roland! To make matters worse neither of the missing persons had their tickets or money with them. Back at Soller railway station Sue Bulford came skipping along from the rear coach of the tram having persuaded the conductor that her husband was on board and had

You Moved

House - Have You Changed Your Branch?

via mail@ipa-uk.org or 0115 9813638

If you have moved house recently you need to update your membership record, turn to page 5 for details of how to do this.

If you have moved to a different area of the country or you are no longer in your current Region or Branch catchment you may need to select a new Region and Branch as this does not change automatically with an address change. Keeping this information current is vital as Regions and Branches need to be able to keep members up-to-date with the latest news. Of course, you do have the option to remain in your current Branch and Region if you prefer.

of IPA Section Germany, had requested a visit to an English police force to help with her professional development. Cleveland Police kindly agreed to host Daniela, along with Humberside police, to give her an insight into the English approach to police duties. Daniela was met at Newcastle airport by the Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) of Cleveland, Mr Sean White, one of the patrons to Durham and Cleveland branch. Daniela’s first week in England was to attend Newcastle University for an English language refresher course. This was followed the following week by attending various departments within Cleveland from Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), Air support, Road policing and the Dog section. The third week Daniela was attached to Humberside police before returning to Cleveland for the final week - where Response, Tactical and NPT sections were involved. Mr White contacted me and asked if the branch could help out during Daniela's free time and to show her some of the sights in the area. I, together with my partner Cindy, took Daniela to Whitby to visit the harbour and the abbey - famous for its links with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. We then went from there to Scarborough and a visit along the promenade. Karel Simpson , Chair Durham and Cleveland branch
