Fibre reinforced plastic pipes

Engineering company VEM SpA, part of Cimtec-Holding Group, has developed Lam-Tech for the continuous winding production of small diameter fibre reinforced pipes. The plant features a lamellar mandrel, as an alternative to more traditional Drostholm-type steel-band plants, covering a range of pipe diameters from ND 100 to 800. The forward and backward movement of lamellas drives the pipe over the mandrel. The plant’s technology also includes chamfering, rectifying and cutting of the pipes on-line, as well as all the required testing and ancillary equipment. The pipes manufactured through this technology are suitable for the following applications: • Water transportation: potable, industrial and wastewater. For this application polyester/vinylester resin glass reinforced pipes are required • District heating: a system for heat distribution, generated in a centralised location for residential and commercial heating requirements. For such applications thermally cured epoxy resin, glass-reinforced pipes with axial strength are required, with hydrolysis resistant liner and external polyurethane foam. The PU foam is externally covered with an HDPE coating • Oil, gas and chemicals: for this application glass- reinforced epoxy, phenolic and vinylester resin pipes with axial strength are required, with high corrosion and gas resistant liner

Reinert-Ritz GmbH, headquartered in Nordhorn, Germany, is an expert in high quality, high value semi-finished products and pipeline fittings in thermo-plastic materials. Since 1970 the company has developed, in close cooperation with its customers, material-related solutions to problems for the construction of pipelines. The manufacture of hollow bar and solid rod from PE and PP is a speciality of the company. Thick-walled pipe up to an external diameter of 1,850mm and solid rod up to an external diameter of 1,010mm are extruded in-house. From this material, Reinert-Ritz manufactures standard and specialised fittings utilising modern CNC turning and milling machines, either in small series or as one-off products. Large series are produced by plastic injection moulding machines.
