Introduction to Psychology

Introduction to Psychology Adrenal hormones- The adrenal glands are twin structures perched atop the kidneys and serve as hormone factories producing and secreting about 50 different hormones that regulate many metabolic processes within the brain and other parts of the body. The adrenals produce the neurotransmitter dopamine, as well as several stress hormones. In an emergency, the adrenal glands are activated by the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. Stress hormones are then secreted into the bloodstream, mobilizing the body’s emergency response system. Sex Hormones- Are commonly considered to be testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. Testosterone is often referred to as a "male" hormone, and estrogen and progesterone are often referred to as "female" hormones.
