Introduction to Psychology categorization of the target concepts with an attribute. The pairings are later studied and interpreted. The faster pairings are stronger concepts, while the slower pairing is weaker. These results measure an individual’s implicit attitudes, many times even without the subject’s awareness. Implicit vs. Explicit Prejudice- Examples of overt prejudice and discrimination are abundant even in this day and age. Although prejudiced attitudes may have faded a bit, in many ways’ modern racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice are more difficult to detect. In contrast to explicit prejudice, which people express publicly, implicit prejudice is hidden from public view. Reducing Prejudice- The best-known approaches to prejudice reduction are based on a principle called equal status contact: prejudice between people is most likely to be reduced when they engage in sustained close contact; have equal status; work to achieve a common goal that requires cooperation; and are supported by broader social norms.
