would be to make the most of the show by backing it up with editorial and marketing coverage in the magazine. It makes sense to let people know about the new products you will be exhibiting and, just as importantly, where your stand will be located. This is a huge show and people often do not have time to see every hall – never mind every exhibitor – so getting your name seen and your products at the forefront of visitors’ minds is vital. By featuring in TPT you can maximise your exposure and attract the attention of our readers before they even arrive. Both our January and March issues will be sent to Germany so you could submit preview editorial or an advert in January to help build and reinforce your message. In the November issue we will have features on tube mills & roll forming, stainless steel production, washing & cleaning technology and TOLexpo in France. If you would like to submit editorial for any of these features or for our Tube Düsseldorf issues contact me at: rory@intras.co.uk

Major innovation award for Ernst Blissenbach at SME Summit

German SME summit in Essen provided the setting for the ceremony. Ernst Blissenbach GmbH – Germany Email: info@blissenbach.de Website: www.blissenbach.de

This year, Professor Franke reviewed more applicants than ever before, with 234 out of 302 qualifying companies making it into the final. After the finalists had been split into three size categories, 178 were awarded the accolade. The

ERNST Blissenbach GmbH has been honoured as one of Germany’s most innovative SMEs at the German SME Summit in Essen. The company joined an exclusive group of prize-winners stretching back over more than 20 years as Top 100 mentor Ranga Yogeshwar awarded it the Top 100 award. The award to Ernst Blissenbach is the outcome of a two-stage analytical procedure by a team of research scientists. Ernst Blissenbach develops systems that enable pipes to be produced with particularly smooth internal surfaces, while offering maximum reliability for demanding pipe production processes. The company scored particularly well in the Top 100 competition’s Innovations Marketing category. Its engineers work together with customers to develop tangible solutions and to exchange ideas and information on best practice in joint workshops. This enables the company to check at an early stage whether its innovation projects are feasible and to react swiftly to the needs of the market. Plenty of inspiration for new products also comes from within the company. Managing director Ernst Blissenbach encourages his 15 employees to think outside the box and places particular emphasis on a no-blame culture. As a result, there is a constant stream of innovative products. “Generating good ideas and imple- menting them quickly is an important competitive factor for us,” commented Mr Blissenbach. “This is why we invest a lot of time and money into managing innovation. In doing so, we are relying on the creativity and inventiveness of all of our employees. I should like to extend my heartfelt thanks to them for helping us win this Top 100 award.” The Top 100 accolade is awarded on the basis of a two-stage analysis developed by Nikolaus Franke, professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and his team. The research scientists use more than 100 parameters in five separate categories to investigate how SMEs generate successful innovations. The decision as to which companies receive the Top 100 award lies exclusively with the academic coordinators of the project.

In 1975, MAC led the way in flux leakage testing

Forty years ago, MAC engineers introduced Rotoflux®, a new test system that could detect ID/OD defects in heavy-wall magnetic tubular products. Today, MAC’s high-speed flux leakage systems are the benchmarks for OCTG testing throughout the world.

Complete cold finishing equipment MAIR Research has been awarded an order for the supply of the complete cold finishing floor equipment for a tube producer for a facility in the USA. The scope consists of several lines, suitable to process 300,000 tons per year of seamless tubing. besides boiler and mechanical tubes. The layout of the equipment was studied together with the customer to ensure an optimised production flow, minimising off- line and manual handling. elements toensure rigidityandsturdiness. The structure has no columns, to ensure easy accessibility to the work area for roller replacement and maintenance, and control of operation during the work cycle. Other features include custom- designed rollers according to the actual production range, and automatic setting of work parameters (angle of the rollers, work speed, etc). The production is mainly for tube according to various specifications of OCTG pipes for the energy industry, Each line includes a ten-roll straightening machine suitable to guarantee a finished tube of better than 0.5mm/m straightness. The main machine structure is composed of welded

The lines also include an NDT test bench and repair area; end cutting, including sample cutting and length optimisation; chamfering according to API norms (precise outer, inner angle and root face); visual inspection and rejects that fall into a cradle; and a high- pressure hydrotester with two heads, suitable for testing two tubes at a time up to 900 bar. The equipment will be added to the customer’s existing tube sizing mill for the purpose of positioning the weld seam prior to reshaping the tube into squares and rectangles. The SOU is adjusted electrically and can be controlled remotely from a downstream position if desired. The customer chose the Rafter equipment over other competitive units because of the simple roll tool movement and design. In addition, the company was able to offer positive feedback from a previous customer. Competitive designs articulate the roll tools in a manner similar to that of a 2-roll, cross- roll straightener. However, the cross-roll method requires a more careful setup and special attention to the roll tooling design to be successful.  Rafter Equipment Corp – USA Fax: +1 440 572 3703 Website: www.rafterequipment.com

Joint development agreement for re-melting technologies

Linde has developed small burners to fit the lab-scale furnaces located in Constellium Technology Center. This effort has resulted in significant metal yield and further productivity increases at lab scale. The improved process is now under evaluation for implementation at industrial scale. “This project is very significant for Linde in terms of our commitment to technological progress as a sustainable solutions provider,” added Thomas Niehoff, head of non-ferrous and mining at Linde. “We welcome this agreement with Constellium as it will advance the development of the oxy-fuel process, save energy and increase efficiency for fully ramped-up plants.” Constellium NV – The Netherlands Email: communications@constellium.com Website: www.constellium.com

remaining furnaces is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016. “With the adoption of the oxy-fuel technology, Constellium is strengthening its commitment to sustainability by promoting energy consumption savings that are compatible with overall performance improvement,” said Catherine Athènes, sustainability council leader at Constellium. “This cooperation will also allow us to continue developing, producing and selling sustainable products that meet our customers’ needs for innovative and recyclable solutions.” Simon Laddychuk, chief technical officer at Constellium, commented, “Constellium’s partnership with Linde has brought together the strengths of both companies to enable the application of this great technology. We are expecting significant savings and efficiency improvements in the next few months.”

CONSTELLIUM NV and Linde Gases have signed a joint development agreement to use Linde’s oxy-fuel technology in Constellium’s recycling and melting furnaces, with a goal of cutting energy consumption by half while increasing melting rates by 20 per cent. This agreement follows a long- term partnership in the area of energy- efficient re-melting technologies. The joint development agreement will build on the recent successful implementation of Linde’s technology in Constellium’s finishing and recycling aluminium facility of Neuf- Brisach, France, where two of the four rotary tilting furnaces have been converted to low-temperature oxy-fuel combustion technology. Following this implementation, Constellium was able to achieve greater productivity and to accelerate progress on its sustainability roadmap. The conversion of the
