from the punch bowl, because this keeps the guestsin motion and tends toward an Animated Scene—you may arrange several platters of sim ple comestibles. On one large platter, place a bowl of home-made mayonnaise, banked up to the edge ofthe platter with shaved ice. On the ice place scores of boiled shrimps—fresh or dry- tinned—from which the spines (they are really their tummies) have been carefully removed. On another platter of ice have celery stuffed with cream cheese, or Roquefort, or anchovy paste,or caviar,if you happen to be a capitalist. Another platter may hold thin watercress sand wiches, and still another cucumbers which have been cut into eighths, lengthwise, and chilled until they are crisp. These things are only slightly nourishing and will not interfere with any plans you may have for eating later.
