You will study in The Lounge, our fully operational, commercial training salons and spa. Open to the public for services, it provides education and training for those wanting a career in the hair, beauty or spa industry, allowing students the opportunity to develop their skills through hands-on work experience. The Lounge offers state of the art facilities including hairdressing and beauty therapy salons, a nail bar, and a spray tanning room. The spa includes a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, floatation bed, monsoon shower, an ice fountain and individual therapy rooms. You will study via a combination of workshops, lectures, seminars and work placements. In addition to the taught sessions, you will be expected to hone your practical skills using departmental facilities in your own time.

The second year aims to further develop your knowledge and skills. By

undertaking a work placement, your skills and confidence will develop and you will achieve professional accreditation recognised within the spa industry. You will look at the global spa industry through research and evaluate the latest innovations within the industry. You have the opportunity to develop knowledge of health, safety, hygiene and environmental factors within the spa industry. Social enterprise is a massive part of the spa therapy industry, as such you are encouraged to establish a business to support the community. CAREERS AND PROGRESSION

Upon graduation you will possess the essential skills to enter a career in spa management with a broad choice of career paths that could include working in hotels or on luxury cruise ships. You will have developed knowledge and skills to become self-employed. You also have the option to apply to progress onto the third year of the BA (Hons) Business and Management at the University of Central Lancashire (UClan) in Preston to top-up your qualification.
