HOWWILL I STUDY?

A final year show in the third year will allow you to display your work to a wider audience, including influential industry advocates.

Learning will be theoretical and practical through lectures, workshops, seminars, group critiques, self-directed study, written work, presentations, group work, visits and guest lectures. You will be supported by a range of resources including library materials and IT access. During the second year, a work placement will enable you to build upon your experience and links within the industry. Teaching takes place in a dedicated light and spacious state-of-the-art design studio, based in the former SmithKline Beecham building at the Town Centre campus. The Creative Arts department is friendly and approachable and of a size that enables us to know our students personally and be able to respond to their needs. Assessment allows you to display your knowledge and skills; it includes group and individual critiques, design artefact(s)/ outcomes, essays, workbooks, initial response maps (proposals), project plans, visual rationales and presentations. You will also be assessed through the effectiveness of your initial development of design knowledge and your research skills (including visual exploration and experimentation), thinking skills, technical skills, making skills and communication skills. WHO WILL BE TEACHING ME?

An experienced team of lecturers with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of graphic design practice will work with you. Our lecturers are active researchers in their fields and have extensive industry experience.

Successful graduates are provided with a whole host of career opportunities in creative industries and as graphic designers working across both print and digital platforms. Recent graduates have gained employment throughout the UK, Berlin, New Zealand and London. The degree continues to produce innovative and respected designers, including recent Entyce winners, Penguin Book award finalists and E4 sting winners. This degree has been designed to consolidate learning, placing the emphasis upon independent investigation, research and practice. You also have the option of further study and research at postgraduate level.
