HOWWILL I STUDY?

CAREERS AND PROGRESSION

Learning will be theoretical and practical through lectures, workshops, seminars, self- directed study, written work, presentations, group work, visits and guest lectures. In addition to classroom-based study, you will also have the opportunity to observe crime and justice in practice by visiting local courts and prisons. Assessment is employed throughout the two years of the degree through both formative and summative assessments including presentations, case studies, essay plans, question and answer sessions, debates and literature reviews. You will also be assessed through essays, exams, reflective logs and reports. Highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic academics with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of criminal justice practice will work with you. Lecturers are active researchers in their field and have experience of working in industry. In addition, visiting speakers assist in the delivery of the degree, often providing novel approaches to, or presenting unique aspects of, particular subjects. HOWWILL I BE ASSESSED? WHO WILL BE TEACHING ME?

Successful completion of this foundation degree in Criminal Justice will have developed your knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system. This is as well as the work associated with it, such as public service departments including the police, prison service, youth service, probation service and the courts. The role of politics, law and social policy will have learning experience. Analytical abilities and critical thinking skills will have been developed throughout the degree and will complement wider transferable skills of research, IT, problem solving, teamwork, and communication. You can use the foundation degree in Criminal Justice as a stepping stone onto the BA (Hons) Criminal Justice (top- up) degree at University Centre St Helens where your skills, knowledge and understanding are further developed through specialist subjects. Graduates can use the BA (Hons) Criminal Justice (Top- up) degree as an opportunity to undertake formal legal training, teacher training, or choose postgraduate study in related areas.
