HOWWILL I STUDY?

CAREERS AND PROGRESSION

Learning will be theoretical and practical through lectures, workshops, seminars, self- directed study, written work, presentations, group work and guest lectures. A work placement will enable you to build upon your experience and gain links within the industry. In addition to classroom-based study, you will also have the opportunity to observe crime and justice in practice by visiting local courts and prisons. Assessment will be carried out throughout the year of the degree, primarily through both formative and summative assessments. This will include presentations, case studies, essay plans, question and answer sessions, debates and literature reviews. You will also be assessed through essays, exams, reflective logs and reports. An experienced team with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of criminal justice and law will work with you. Lecturers are active in the research in your field and have experience of working within the wider field of criminal justice. In addition, visiting speakers assist in the delivery of the degree, often providing novel approaches to, or presenting unique aspects of, particular subjects. HOWWILL I BE ASSESSED? WHO WILL BE TEACHING ME?

When you graduate you will have developed a

comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system and the work associated with it. Public, private and voluntary organisations including public service departments, such as the police, prison service, youth service, probation service, social work, legal practice and the courts are all pathways and vocation options. Analytical abilities and critical thinking skills will have been developed throughout and will complement wider transferable skills of research, IT, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication. The combination of criminal justice expertise linked with wider vocational transferable skills develop important qualities which are in high demand in the current workplace and are suitable for both operational and management positions. Graduates can use the BA (Hons) Criminal Justice (top- up) degree as an opportunity to undertake formal legal training, teacher training, or choose postgraduate study in related areas. Graduates will find the course a useful grounding for entry into a range of criminal justice and related careers.
