FdA SOCIAL POLICY, HEALTH & HOUSING

OVERVIEW

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 48 UCAS Tariff points

The role of social policy, health and housing in society has rapidly changed over the past decade. The effects of welfare reform have resulted in massive pressures on services provided by central and local government, welfare agencies and housing associations. Our foundation degree in Social Policy, Health and Housing has received additional validation by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), the professional body for the housing sector. It will provide you with the opportunity to actively engage in the analysis of cutting edge social issues as a highly contemporary, dynamic and grounded academic subject. It helps us to address some of today’s most pressing social challenges by providing an understanding of how and why societies change and how policies are put in place to respond to these changes. You will identify the links between social welfare, health and housing issues whilst focusing on multi-agency and community approaches to social problems. You will explore issues surrounding social citizenship rights, equality and fairness, basic human rights, and how these issues are dealt with. It also provides critical perspectives on crime, poverty, gender and health inequalities, and assesses the impact of each of these on individuals and society as a whole.

All applicants have the opportunity to attend an interview. This is designed to be an informal meeting to see if the course is suitable for your needs. It will also offer the lecturers the opportunity to discuss your career and placement interests. Please see pages 128 – 129 for full details of our admissions requirements and how to apply.
