WHAT WILL I STUDY?

YEAR 2

YEAR 1

In the second year you will develop your knowledge further. The work-based learning project will allow you to link theory and practice through a work placement in an organisation that matches your career interests. You will study social policy research methods, look at factors that contribute to wellbeing and at the roles and responsibilities of individuals and professionals improving healthcare outcomes. You will also look at problems involved in delivering welfare services and developments in the management of social housing, given welfare reforms and changing government policies. Modules include: • Work-based Project • Social Policy Research • Roles and Responsibilities in Healthcare • Understanding Welfare Delivery • Contemporary Housing Management Issues

The first year gives you a good introduction to theory and links with professional practice. You will study the historical development of the welfare state, develop your own professional and personal career plan, examine aspects of sociology and psychology, as well as developing a basic knowledge of healthcare issues and how housing policy has developed over time. Modules include: • Perspectives on Welfare • Personal Academic and Professional Development (PAPD) • Introduction to Social Science and Social Exclusion • Exploring Healthcare Issues • Development of Housing Policy
