OVERVIEW

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 96 UCAS Tariff points

Microbiology is a laboratory-based science which closely studies and analyses the microorganisms that impact on the health of human beings, animals and plant life. Our foundation degree in Applied Microbiology is one of only a few courses in the country of its type, in the field of Microbiology with a focus on classical mycology. It has been designed in consultation with local and regional employers and in response to the changing needs of the industry. This course provides an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the fascinating world of bacteria and viruses, paying attention to microbes of medical importance. It will provide you with the opportunity to develop the academic knowledge needed to expertly engage with the practical and technical aspects of this industry, whilst allowing you to develop the relevant analytical, transferable and work-based skills. The degree is designed as a clear avenue of entry to a range of career paths and further study.

All suitably qualified applicants will be invited to attend an interview. This is designed to be an informal meeting, providing you with the opportunity to see if the degree is suitable for your needs. It will also offer lecturers the opportunity to discuss and view your career and placement interests. Please see pages 128 – 129 for full details of our admissions requirements and how to apply.
