BALLOT FOR COUNCIL. The ballot for election of Council will be held on Wednesday, 21st November, from eleven o'clock to" one o'clock, in the Secretary's Office, Solicitors' Buildings, Four Courts, Dublin. Voting papers should reach the Secretary not later than one o'clock on Wednesday, 21st November. Society will be held held at half-past two o'clock, p.m., on Monday, the 26th Novem– ber, in the Hall of the" Society, Solicitors' Buildings, Four Courts, Dublin. MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL. 4th October. Twenty-four Members present. Land Purchase. The question of the nature of the owner– ship of a tenant in his holding purchased under the Land Act, 1923, between the vesting of the estate in the Land Commission and the actual vesting of the holding in the tenant, was under discussion, and it was resolved to take the opinion of counsel thereon. Courts of Justice Bill, 1934. It was noted that on 8th August the Minister for Justice obtained the leave of the Dail to introduce a Bill, entitled : An Act to make further and better provision in relation to the administration of justice and for that purpose to amend the Courts of Justice Acts, 1924 to 1931, and other enact– ments. A special committee of the Council was appointed to consider the Bill when issued. HALF-YEARLY GENERAL MEETING. A Half-yearly General Meeting of the

25th October. Twenty-seven Members present. Estate Duty. The question of the assessment of Estate Duty was under consideration Court of Examiners. The Report of the Court of Examiners upon the October Examinations and awards of Scholarships was submitted and adopted. Annual Report. The draft Annual Report of the Council was submitted and adopted. OBITUARY. MR. JOSEPH C. W. REA, Solicitor, died on the 2nd September, 1934, at his residence, " Iverna," Mornington Park, Bangor, County Down. Mr. Rea served his apprenticeship with Mr. James C. McDowell, Belfast; was admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1901, and practised at 39 Castle Lane, Donegall Place, Belfast. MR. BARRY I. SULLIVAN, Solicitor, died on the 13th September, 1934, at London. Mr. Sullivan served his apprenticeship with Mr. James Nunan, Mallow; was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1918, and practised at Mallow. MR. CHARLES P. W. BATTLEY, Solicitor, died on the 26th October, 1934, at his residence, Belvedere Hall, Bray, Co. Wicklow. Mr. Battley served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. Thomas T. Mecredy, Dublin ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1895, and practised in partnership with Mr. Samuel Gordon, under the style of Stephen Gordon and Son, at 15 Molesworth Street, Dublin.
